Do I need a permit for residential electrical work in Austin, Leander, or surrounding Central Texas cities?

Yes. Under the City of Austin Development Services Department, City of Leander, and surrounding municipal codes, an electrical permit is required for most major electrical work, including main service panel upgrades, new circuit installations, whole-home rewiring, solar interconnections, and Level 2 EV charger branch lines. 

Minor cosmetic tasks (like swapping out an existing decorative light fixture or cover plate) do not require permits, but anything involving core wiring changes or system expansion must be permitted and inspected by a licensed electrician. 

We file all city permits, interface with utility providers (such as Austin Energy or PEC), and handle all required city inspections for you.
